Trauma/PTSD
Trauma isn’t just about what happened to you—it’s about how those experiences continue to affect you today. Whether it’s a single overwhelming event or repeated exposure to stress, trauma can leave deep emotional and physical imprints.
Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) often occurs after a significant traumatic event, such as abuse, an accident, or a natural disaster. Symptoms of PTSD include flashbacks, nightmares, emotional numbness, hypervigilance, and difficulty regulating emotions. These symptoms can make you feel stuck, as though the past is still happening in the present.
Complex PTSD (C-PTSD), on the other hand, develops after prolonged or repeated trauma, often in relational contexts, such as childhood neglect, emotional abuse, or toxic relationships. Alongside PTSD symptoms, C-PTSD often involves persistent feelings of shame, difficulty trusting others, struggles with self-worth, and challenges in building healthy relationships.
You may be wondering if trauma is affecting your life. Consider:
- Do I feel overwhelmed by memories I can’t control?
- Am I easily triggered by situations that remind me of the past?
- Do I struggle to feel safe, even when I know I’m not in danger?
Trauma can disrupt your ability to feel whole, but it doesn’t have to define you. Through counseling, we’ll explore the impact of trauma on your life, help you process painful experiences, and build tools to reclaim your sense of safety, identity, and connection. Whether you’re navigating PTSD, C-PTSD, or other trauma-related challenges, healing is possible, and you don’t have to face the journey alone.
Common treatments for PTSD, C-PTSD, and other trauma related issues include Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Internal Family Systems (IFS), mindfulness, and trauma-focused cognitive-behavioral therapy (TF-CBT). My training has been focused on EMDR, so this is most often the approach I take.
My approach is trauma-informed, client-centered, and Christian integrated for those who desire it. I provide a safe, nonjudgmental space to process painful experiences, work through triggers, and rebuild trust in yourself and others. Together, we’ll uncover a path toward healing that honors your story and equips you for a future defined by resilience and hope.
